Be Still and Know That I Am God

Psalm 46:10: ‘be still and know that I am God…’ or as the NASB version says ‘cease striving and know that I God…’ is one of my go to Bible verses. It is a reminder that God is sovereign over everything, that he is in control and that I can trust him.

I need to be directed by God in what I am doing and thinking, not by my circumstances. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says: ‘trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your path straight.’ Also I need to do things in God’s strength and not my own, as Zechariah 4:6 says ‘‘…not by might nor by power, but by my spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.’

Earlier in the week I needed this verse when I was nervous and fretting about an event. My husband asked me what God would say to me, I replied ‘be still and know that I am God,’ he then asked me what God wanted me to do and I replied with the same verse. We then prayed and God gave me his peace and reminded me that he goes before me (Psalm 139:5). When I woke up the next morning it was such a boost to see this as our verse of the day on the fridge:

Verse of the day

I love it when God reminds me that he cares about the details in my life (Matthew 6:25-33) and that he knows what I need (Matthew 6:8). When the event came around I was joyful and peaceful, praise God!

So my challenge to you is to dwell on ‘be still/ cease striving and know that I am God.’ Is there something that you need to hand over to God today? He is in control and he loves you.
