Last week I wrote about seeking God for revival and how we can all participate in praying regardless of our capacity. This week I am continuing on the theme of reaching the lost, with a focus on unreached people groups. This is because as Jesus said in John 14:6 ‘….I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.‘
I have been inspired by an inter-church Christian meeting where several people remarked that the worship was a glimpse of heaven. This made me think about how in heaven there will be people worshiping God from ‘…every nation, tribe, people and language…’ (Revelation 7:9).
I am challenged by this because there are so many unreached people groups in the world. The Joshua Project estimates that 41.5% of the world’s population lives in unreached groups; there are 32 groups in the UK. The project defines an unreached group as one lacking ‘enough followers of Christ and resources to evangelise their own people.’
Now we can all help reach the lost near to us, we can tell our friends and neighbours about Jesus. Unreached people groups far from us pose more of a challenge, some people will go as missionaries but we can all participate in prayer. This is because as James 5:16 says ‘the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.’
However, the task is daunting and I find that it can be hard to know where to start with prayer or to have the discipline to pray regularly. There are thankfully a range of resources out there with prayer points including: Joshua Project and Operation World. My challenge to you today, is to join me in prayer for unreached groups as your capacity allows.
