Come Holy Spirit

I am exploring Acts and what has struck me is that we need the Holy Spirit each and every day. This means that you can know God’s presence in whatever situation you are in, even if you are ill and at home on your own because ‘…the Spirit of God dwells in you…’ (Romans 8:9). I am so thankful that when Jesus left earth he didn’t leave us on our own but that he left the Holy Spirit. The Spirit who is the: comforter (Philippians 2:1), helper (John 14:26), guide (John 16:13) and peace giver (Philippians 4:7).

In fact you can invite the Holy Spirit to be with you right now, God the Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask for it (Luke 11:13). When talking about the Holy Spirit, Jesus said: ‘let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them…’ (John 7:37-38).

It doesn’t need to be complicated to invite God to walk with you daily, we can come to God as we are, in fact ‘...the Spirit helps us in our weakness‘ (Romans 8:26). What about a simple prayer such as ‘Come Holy Spirit?’ I find it amazing that I can engage with God through simple and short prayers such as this one (more on this here). Also I find worship songs helpful for inviting the Spirit to be with me, Soul Survivor actually has a song entitled: ‘Come Holy Spirit’ (see here for the lyric video).

So it is my prayer for you and me today that we would invite the Holy Spirit to walk with us daily and to minister to us. Lord let us walk today in the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22). Come Holy Spirit.

  1. I wrote a series of posts on the Holy Spirit a few months ago. This is a new way of thinking for many, and such a powerful advocate we often ignore. Thank you for highlighting!
